The Qaddafi Disaster at the United Nations, in Photos

Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi addressed the United Nations General Assembly today with a presentation that was more spectacle than speech.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2009

After being introduced as the "king of kings" Qaddafi delivered his speech to the world's leaders, which consisted of a number of inflammatory remarks, among them, the suggestion that swine flu was a tool of destruction engineered in U.S. laboratories. He also questioned details of the Kennedy assassination and offered the Jewish people protection from Westerners, claiming "Look at what everyone else did to the Jews. Hitler is an example. You are the ones who hate the Jews, not us."

What follows are images without commentary from today's address. In this instance it seems pictures are worth more than words ...

OECD countries heard the speech as a "rant", but to the developing world, he spoke the truth. The UN lost all credibility years ago.

Because the organization that organizes the most aid to the developing world, allows the developing nations to have far more weight than the developed world in the General Assembly, and allows eccentric dictators who have little understanding of diplomatic norms to carry on ad nauseam has lost its credibility with them.

would be enjoyable if only...

I think of Qaddafi as of sort of a "dissident" among other world leaders. He says what he thinks, that's plausible. I would even enjoy his Friday night show wouldn't it be shadowed by numerous reports of repressions at his home :-/

run an equally scathing analysis back then of Colin Powell's performance in the same Assembly before the Iraq war. Which performance, though less comedic, was far more harmful than Khadafy's harmless stunts.
