The Top 10 Craziest Things Ever Said During a U.N. Speech

History is rich with memorable orations delivered by the world's leaders as nations convene to discuss the critical issues of the day. From the impassioned to the provocative to the truly bizarre, here are  the 10 most unforgettable remarks to come out of the United Nations general assembly speeches in the last sixty years.

What is Qaddafi Doing?

Year: 2009

Quote: "It should not be called a security council, it should be called a terror council."

Impact: After 40 years in power, Libyan Leader Muammar al-Qaddafi spoke to the United Nations for the first time at this year's general assembly and certainly made up for lost time. In his 100 minute speech, Qaddafi listed half a century's worth of grievances and conspiracy theories including accusing the Untied States of developing swine flu and questioning the official record of the Kennedy assassination. Most of Qaddafi's wrath was reserved for the U.N. Security Council, which he likened to al Qaeda. Qaddafi's accommodations provided another sideshow at this year's assembly, as the Libyan leader was rebuffed in his attempts to set up a Bedouin tent in several New York-area locations before finally making up camp in Donald Trump's backyard.

The Top 10 Craziest Things Ever Said During a U.N. Speech

Quote: "The dignity, integrity and rights of the American and European people are being played with by a small but deceitful number of people called Zionists. Although they are a miniscule minority, they have been dominating an important portion of the financial and monetary centers as well as the political decision-making centers of some European countries and the U.S. in a deceitful, complex and furtive manner."

Where is the craziness about this?
These are well established facts with no surprises.
The Jews have a commanding grip on Economy here in US as well as some other European countries and they pretty much dictate the ME foreign policies of US and influence many other countries governments.

Established facts?

Please provide these established facts for us to peruse.

Presently, it seems that no one has a commanding grip on the economy and Israel certainly doesn't hold sway over European governments; the intense anti-semitism prevalent in Western Europe speaks the opposite.

--------------

I find it fascinating that most of these moments come from dictators / leaders of nations operating command economies. Perhaps the time spent dictating economic policy and trying to maintain deply flawed policies took its toll on their sanity.

And you, Mr. Fathi

To start with I have two words to say: Bernie Madoff.

If Jews had that much control of "financial and money centers" (personally I'm not sure what you think the difference between a "financial" and a "money" center is), we darn sure wouldn't have let Bernie, --another Jew--, decimate crucial pro-Israel Jewish organizations. If Bernie isn't proof enough for you that Jews aren't all engaged in a massive financial conspiracy, then you care only about dogma, not truth.

If we Jews have so much control over the "financial and money centers," where did all my investment money go? If I supposedly have all this power then how the heck did I lose half of my investments just like everyone else? I want my frickin' money. I wish I had some magical Jew-powers to get it, or I guess I'm supposed to call in some Jew-favors with some theoretical Jew-financiers I'm supposed to be tight with.

As an American born Muslim of Pakistani nuclear scientist, it saddens me to say that many people think like mr fathi.

The true facts is that people of the middle east and/or islamic countries blame others for their own problems.

As far as the anti-semitism, its from the side of humanity that has to do with jealousy.

How come Israel a tiny little country with no oil resources can develop their land and make it so prosperous?

yet many 'islamic' (i put in quotes because I believe that no so called 'islamic' country is really that)

If you do your research (hint CFR), you can find out that their are some insidious plots, but remember "God is the best of plotters"

Although fiat money based on fractional reserve banking will never be sustainable, I have yet to see a better alternative put into action.

Maybe its time that some Muslims study economics, unify their economies with an Islamic Union, make the Islamic Central Bank with a gold based currency and trade the oil based on gold imports

We need solutions, not blaming people who may or may not exist.

But one thing is true, Saddam tried to sell his oil in Euro's, and guess what happened?

sometimes ideas are more dangerous than nukes =D

Are you guys trying to compete with Hugo, Castro, Ahmadinejad and others in a "who is more closed-minded" contest here?

Jews do NOT control world's financial and political decision-making centers. Russia, for instance, is an important political player -- it's been all supportive of Iran and other hostile-to-Israel regimes. China -- soon will become No.1 economy in the world. Where do you see a jewish plot here???

And word "Muslims" is not a synonym for "jihadist" or "terrorist". I have many Muslim friends, a peace-loving, educated individuals. Stop offending Muslims! This is so sick already.

Adlai Stevenson?

For me, one of THE most famous UN speeches was delivered by then Ambassador Adlai Stevenson during the Cuban missile crisis when he displayed reconnaissance photos of Russian missiles in Cuba and challenged the Russian delegate to deny or confirm their existence.

The Russian said something to the effect that he wasn't in a US courtroom and that Stevenson would get his answer "in due time."

Stevenson replied that he wanted his answer right then, "don't wait for the translation" and was prepared to wait for that answer "until hell freezes over."

At the time, the world was poised on the brink of nuclear war. This exchange was about as dramatic as any ever in the UN, and I'm surprised it didn't make the author's top 10 list.

Craziest things ever said at the UN? You forgot to include GW Bush's lies and distortions on Iraq in his 2003 UN address. Why didnt you include the "vial of anthrax" speach?

How could you leave Colin Powells infamous “vial of anthrax speech” off this list? Sure, you made passing mention to it in another report, but this bizarre farce deserves its own spot. Not only because the facts are now known to be a complete fabrication, nor because it possessed the hokey theatricality of a sixth grade debate, but because unlike the other speeches you noted, this one directly contributed to a war that has cost hundreds of thousands of lives.

Colin Powel himself has gone on record as saying it was a blot on his record. While his aide de campe (Lawrence B Wilkerson) notes that he had “participated in a hoax on the American people”. Sadly it doesn’t seem to concern the Colonel that this little jape was also a hoax on the rest of the world and that it’s appalling nature lies not so much in the telling of falsehoods, but in the misery and destruction they wrought.

We all remember Colin Powell waving his vial of icing sugar about as he told the world how absolutely and positively certain he was that there were all sorts of weapons of mass destruction tucked away in Iraq. The Republican speech writers and strategists must have had a laughed themselves stupid knowing that Powell’s top secret briefings papers were cribbed from old student papers. So, while shoe banging and sulpherous references belong in this sorry pantheon – “the vial of anthrax” deserves to be at the head of the list.

Zionism is racism. And now it

Zionism is racism. And now it is Apartheid. What is so funny?

American Jews are weird.

This Road is for Jews Only
Yes, There is Apartheid in Israel

By SHULAMIT ALONI

Jewish self-righteousness is taken for granted among ourselves to such an extent that we fail to see what's right in front of our eyes. It's simply inconceivable that the ultimate victims, the Jews, can carry out evil deeds.

Nevertheless, the state of Israel practises its own, quite violent, form of Apartheid with the native Palestinian population.

The US Jewish Establishment's onslaught on former President Jimmy Carter is based on him daring to tell the truth which is known to all: through its army, the government of Israel practises a brutal form of Apartheid in the territory it occupies. Its army has turned every Palestinian village and town into a fenced-in, or blocked-in, detention camp. All this is done in order to keep an eye on the population's movements and to make its life difficult. Israel even imposes a total curfew whenever the settlers, who have illegally usurped the Palestinians' land, celebrate their holidays or conduct their parades.

If that were not enough, the generals commanding the region frequently issue further orders, regulations, instructions and rules (let us not forget: they are the lords of the land). By now they have requisitioned further lands for the purpose of constructing "Jewish only" roads. Wonderful roads, wide roads, well-paved roads, brightly lit at night--all that on stolen land. When a Palestinian drives on such a road, his vehicle is confiscated and he is sent on his way.

On one occasion I witnessed such an encounter between a driver and a soldier who was taking down the details before confiscating the vehicle and sending its owner away. "Why?" I asked the soldier. "It's an order--this is a Jews-only road", he replied. I inquired as to where was the sign indicating this fact and instructing [other] drivers not to use it. His answer was nothing short of amazing. "It is his responsibility to know it, and besides, what do you want us to do, put up a sign here and let some antisemitic reporter or journalist take a photo so he that can show the world that Apartheid exists here?"

Indeed Apartheid does exist here. And our army is not "the most moral army in the world" as we are told by its commanders. Sufficient to mention that every town and every village has turned into a detention centre and that every entry and every exit has been closed, cutting it off from arterial traffic. If it were not enough that Palestinians are not allowed to travel on the roads paved 'for Jews only', on their land, the current GOC found it necessary to land an additional blow on the natives in their own land with an "ingenious proposal".

Humanitarian activists cannot transport Palestinians either.

Major-General Naveh, renowned for his superior patriotism, has issued a new order. Coming into affect on 19 January, it prohibits the conveyance of Palestinians without a permit. The order determines that Israelis are not allowed to transport Palestinians in an Israeli vehicle (one registered in Israel regardless of what kind of numberplate it carries) unless they have received explicit permission to do so. The permit relates to both the driver and the Palestinian passenger. Of course none of this applies to those whose labour serves the settlers. They and their employers will naturally receive the required permits so they can continue to serve the lords of the land, the settlers.

Did man of peace President Carter truly err in concluding that Israel is creating Apartheid? Did he exaggerate? Don't the US Jewish community leaders recognise the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination of 7 March 1966, to which Israel is a signatory? Are the US Jews who launched the loud and abusive campaign against Carter for supposedly maligning Israel's character and its democratic and humanist nature unfamiliar with the International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid of 30 November 1973? Apartheid is defined therein as an international crime that among other things includes using different legal instruments to rule over different racial groups, thus depriving people of their human rights. Isn't freedom of travel one of these rights?

In the past, the US Jewish community leaders were quite familiar with the meaning of those conventions. For some reason, however, they are convinced that Israel is allowed to contravene them. It's OK to kill civilians, women and children, old people and parents with their children, deliberately or otherwise without accepting any responsibility. It's permissible to rob people of their lands, destroy their crops, and cage them up like animals in the zoo. From now on, Israelis and International humanitarian organisations' volunteers are prohibited from assisting a woman in labour by taking her to the hospital. [Israeli human rights group] Yesh Din volunteers cannot take a robbed and beaten-up Palestinian to the police station to lodge a complaint. (Police stations are located at the heart of the settlements.) Is there anyone who believes that this is not Apartheid?

Jimmy Carter does not need me to defend his reputation that has been sullied by Israelophile community officials. The trouble is that their love of Israel distorts their judgment and blinds them from seeing what's in front of them. Israel is an occupying power that for 40 years has been oppressing an indigenous people, which is entitled to a sovereign and independent existence while living in peace with us. We should remember that we too used very violent terror against foreign rule because we wanted our own state. And the list of victims of terror is quite long and extensive.

We do limit ourselves to denying the [Palestinian] people human rights. We not only rob of them of their freedom, land and water. We apply collective punishment to millions of people and even, in revenge-driven frenzy, destroy the electricity supply for one and half million civilians. Let them "sit in the darkness" and "starve".

Employees cannot be paid their wages because Israel is holding 500 million shekels that belong to the Palestinians. And after all that we remain "pure as the driven snow". There are no moral blemishes on our actions. There is no racial separation. There is no Apartheid. It's an invention of the enemies of Israel. Hooray for our brothers and sisters in the US! Your devotion is very much appreciated. You have truly removed a nasty stain from us. Now there can be an extra spring in our step as we confidently abuse the Palestinian population, using the "most moral army in the world".

zionism is racism

you should not be surprised when Americans fail to see the racism right in front of their noses, since they themselves practice it everyday as a rule either actively or passively against the minority ethnic groups and native peoples living among them right now.

It is quite simply monstrous for a person who portrays himself as even a little educated to ignore the overweening influence of the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC on American foreign and domestic policy. Perhaps we should pretend that Israel has not continued to receive the billions in American foreign aid even while retaining its status as the nation which has been condemned the most for its illegal, genocidal, racist, supremacist (all quotes from UN documents) treatment of the Palestinian natives.

For the two "Christians" who dare say Islam and "lie" in the same sentence I hardly need remind you that the American slave trade, your "manifest destiny", the Salem witch trials, ku klux Klan, skin heads, racial profiling, the massacre and oppression of the native rightful owners of America which continues unabated to this very day. All of the above and so much more was carried out in obedience to the actual words that are written in your bible. This much is mere historical fact. I challenge you to debate these things and prove me wrong on a single point before spewing your block-headed stupidity on public forums.

I dare say that I was once a christian like you, and believed the racist lies of you bible (every book written by Jews who hated Palestinians parse:Canaanites, and syro-Phoenicians and you will understand what I mean), and was deceived in every way. For me Islam is the light that freed me from the racism and mental slavery that you two fellows obviously still labor beneath. Check your facts about Israel next time, or you may check the ones I just mentioned . Either way you will sound less the fool when you attack Muslims in such a rude, unwarranted, and public fashion.

Israel is racism

Sir,
To the believer the land is G-d promised for the Jewish people after so many trials befallen upon them, the last one being the Holocaust.

So get out and let us have what have been promised to G-d's chosen people.

The mistake is these gentiles still stays there after 60 years, how many generation does it take for the gentile to understand this simple concept.

Obviously most of the Christian world being faithful to the Bible's teaching already understand and support Israel in every way, it is a country that is created by G-d's will.

As simple as that.

Israel

Israel's policies, mis-deeds, military moves, aggressions, subterfuges etc etc are NO DIFFERENT from most other nations of the world and are necessary for the protection of her people and the safeguarding of her land....just as other nations think.

When you holler and scream about assassinations, military incursions and actions...make sure it is about your nation's incorrigible actions FIRST and when you have solved that, then it might be time to point the finger at Israel.

Leave Israel alone and mind your own business.

There's this funny thing here

There's this funny thing here in the West. You see a lot of our political and intellectual elites are Atheists or Agnostics. Heritages could be jewish (like Ahmadinejad!) but its really no more influential on our decisions than say pantheist beliefs from the Roman ages.

Our political/foreign policy decisions (post-Bush) are mostly based on a world-view that sees how middle eastern "Islamic" countries as being autocratic corrupt socially backwards countries that like many have said - are always blaming others for their poor decisions.

The Minister of Culture in the UAE (I went to school there), mentioned that the crowning achievement of the UAE was using it's oil money in investments in Education (Unlike some other Arab countries - He added). Having studied Islam well enough to know a good amount of the fiqh and Arabic well enough to be able to read and translate it, I know when some Arab nations are BS-ing the world into thinking that Islam is supposed to be "this way". But it's not and you can't pull that stuff anymore claiming that the big bad Jews are going to get you, Sure Netanyahu is a crazy zionist who's stealing Palestinian land - But what are you all actually DOING to help the palestinians other than using it as a ploy to make you country look nicer?
"Ya, Ahmad. I know it sucks that we have a fake representative democracy here in Syria - but I mean the Palestinians have it so much worse! We should focus on fixing that." (But we won't really because it makes our government look 'legitimate'.)

I find it quite sad that FP perpetuates the myth of the Khrushchev quote. "We will bury you" may be what the translator said but what Khrushchev said comes much closer to "we will be present at your funeral." Still not prescient, but very different in meaning

CRITICISM OF BUSH OR ISRAEL= CRAZY!

I KNEW from the first moment I saw the headline that the 'crazy' list would include at least one item of criticism of Bush. None of the horrible lies and evidence manufacturing that Bush promoted at the UN makes the cut of course, but those who condemned his torture chambers and genocide in Iraq are 'nuts.'
