The history of bull fighting stretches back millennia. Excavations of ancient Minoan frescos on the Island of Crete indicate that games involving bulls started as early as 1500 B.C. But feelings and traditions surrounding bull fighting are changing -- officially. This week, Catalonia's parliament voted to uphold a ban against the sport set to take effect in 2012. Do they kill the bull?
If they do not kill the bull at the fight, then there are far worse things that we humans can first stop before banning bull fighting. We could all turn vegetarian for starters and am sure the bulls would much prefer a fight than the abatoir.

They do kill them
Once the bull is exhausted, the matador stabs it to death and I think they eventually butcher it and eat it somewhere. If they didnt kill the bull, noone would care except PETA, because all they would be doing is tiring out and pissing off a bull. However, they do kill it in front of thousands of cheering people, so you can see why most developed and even semi-developed nations really look down on the practice. It would be a lot like if the British still did Bear-Baiting. (Look it up)

The bull is not always killed
There is a style of bullfighting called Recortes, where the bull is not injured. But it's not as popular and PETA still objects.

Thats not the only animal that suffers
The world looks at bull fighting as an inhumane sport but lets be honest. Every year in the United Stated hunters use Bows, and Shotguns to hunt deer and bears. Many hunters don’t make the kill mark and the animal runs and suffers. I don't think any country can complain about Bull fights.

Sorry to be cynical, but the Catalonians are sooo full of it. I've lived in Barcelona for a year, and I've seen their attitude. They use this „Catalonian-liberal-freedom fighter” scam because this gives the city an image, therefore it attracts more tourists, more money. They don’t care for independence, politics or anything. They have more autonomy than most minorities in the world (come on, they have their own parliament!) but they have to keep this thing going to appeal to the „rebel-type” youths.

Nationalist trick
In Barcelona, bullfight rings are often packed with bullfighting fans. I think that this ban is another separatist trick used by the nationalist catalonian parties (CIU, ERC and others) in order to abolish in Catalonia one of the most internationally images of Spain.
This is my opinion, because while they are banning bullfighting, they maintain the "correbous" tradition consisting in attaching two burning ball to the bull's horns, while the bull runs through the street. To me, that is also torture.
