Col. Qaddafi's Last Stand?

The long career of Libya's mercurial dictator.

FEBRUARY 23, 2011

Stormy times: Libyan leader Col. Muammar al-Qaddafi currently faces the most serious threat to his 41-year reign, as anti-regime protesters have seized large segments in the east of the country from his grasp. Qaddafi appeared briefly on Libyan television Tuesday morning, clutching a giant umbrella, to dispel rumors that he had already fled to Venezuela. He appeared again on Feb. 22 to deliver a long, rambling speech, in which he vowed to "fight until the last drop of my blood" and "cleanse Libya house by house" in order to remain in power. Here's the story of this erratic autocrat's roller-coaster career.

The rise of people's power

It is amazing how the revolution in Egypt is spreading all across the Middle East and Africa. This may not be Qaddafi's last stand, but it could be the last stand of any dictator who continues to exploit their country for their own personal gain and riches. With the rise of social network like Twitter and Facebook, the message to revolt is spread a lot quicker today and enables the coordination of the masses against their rulers. Perhaps, the people of North Korea are watching too. - June

Is Qaddafi the worst evil?

Now we see revolutions spreading across the unstable countries of North Africa and Middle East. Countries that are rich in oil. Who'll be the next? Saudi Arabia? And what will be with oil prices if the unstable revolutionary situation remains in effect in this region.
And what parties are to come to power in Lybia? Democrats? Radical Islamites? If the latter - than what Europe will do with the Islamiste Republic near its borders.

So, don't you think that Qaddafi is the worst evil for Lybia nowadays? In whole, he wasn't as bad, as other dictators. There were practically no reports on human rights violations in Lybia as of today. As to terrorism, for example, Israel is using terrorist attacks against its enemies across the whole world. And, for example, USA use its global power to bring Assange to court.
