The Mullah Krekar Show

Is this the man behind the Oslo terrorist bombing?

BY J.M. BERGER | JULY 22, 2011

Two years ago this month, the U.S. television network NBC had the bright idea to create a reality show about vigilante terrorist hunters who would do something unspecified to terrorists who had evaded the long reach of justice.

The first episode of the execrable series, The Wanted, put the spotlight on Mullah Krekar, an Iraqi national flagged by the United States, the United Nations, and Interpol for his involvement with Iraqi terrorist groups.

The program showed NBC's terror team stalking Krekar on the streets of Oslo, a venture that was depicted as extremely dangerous, though Krekar was always just a phone call away from any media outlet that would give him airtime. Somehow Krekar escaped NBC's brand of rough -- or at least itchy -- justice. For a while, at least.

The Wanted was canceled after two episodes, but the Mullah Krekar Show continued until last week, when he was arrested for threatening Norwegian politicians.

Today, at least one bomb went off in Oslo, targeting government buildings. It's far too soon to draw any conclusions about who is responsible for the attacks, but Krekar's long history in Norway will likely be thrust into the spotlight after today's events.

An Iraqi Kurd, Krekar fled Saddam Hussein's regime after years spent working with Islamist and jihadi movements. He relocated to Norway under refugee status in 1991.

In Oslo, Krekar enjoyed tremendous freedom to operate as a preacher and an organizer.

Allegedly traveling freely in violation of Norwegian asylum law, he helped create Ansar al-Islam, an Islamist group that enforced Taliban-style governance in Kurdish areas of Iraq prior to the U.S. invasion. After the invasion, Ansar al-Islam became part of the Salafist insurgent alliance known as Ansar al-Sunna.

Although Krekar played an important inspirational role in the insurgency, the Norwegians couldn't successfully mount a terrorism case against him. Extradition requests reportedly came from Jordan, Iraq, and the United States, but efforts to deport him ran aground on red tape and Norway's robust legal protections and benefits for refugees.

"He is a walking provocation and is making a mockery out of Norwegian respect for human rights," said Ola Flyum, a Norwegian journalist with whom I have worked, in an e-mail this morning. Flyum has investigated Krekar's story for years.

?"Just a few days ago our Secretary of State; Jonas Gahr Støre said the following: “Palestinians can govern themselves”, and proclaming that Palestine should get an own state separate from Israel. Palestine’s president Mahmoud Abbas was in ...Oslo the 18th of July to further and upgrade Norway and Palestine relations. Palestine will get a ambassadeur in Norway.
Norway is known to be “Palestine-friendly” and that makes this situation very interesting."

No, they can't govern themselves

No, they can't govern themselves, Støre is yet another dupe...

It's their own narrative that keeps them from attaining statehood, they would have to care more to live in their own state than to fight the Israelis to the bitter end, but to do so requires them to reject their perverted sense of honor/shame, their win/lose game theory, their militant para-theological indoctrination et al...

This is what happens when Americans invade

As long as America continues to invade, bomb, rape the Middle East of her resources, there will be tensions between the West and the Muslim world. Norway is at least taking the right decision by trying to reduce these tensions.

Besides, why blame him when no one knows what happened yet.

The world needs more Norwegians leftists and less Republicans and their Geert Wilders wannabee bigots!

As long as we put up with sycophants such as yourself, they are right to believe such horrendous inhumanity will bear fruit, so here's hoping we put you and your ilk out of your misery like so many dogs ravaged by rabies.

Ok You've Stumped Me...

This is what happens when America invades the Middle-East? What does a terrorist attack in Norway have to do with Americans invading the Middle-East? Are you accusing Middle-Eastern Terrorists of being too stupid to be able to tell the difference between America and Norway? Or are you saying it's okay to kill Norwegians because they're white and European?

I do however like your second statement: Besides, why blame him when no one knows what happened yet.

Indeed we shouldn't blame him, since we don't have all the facts. We should blame America though, since we have don't have all the facts?

I wouldn't accuse you of being an idiot, just someone who says idiotic things.

Sure, lets all pretend the problem is this guy....

...till the next one, and just like the one before him.. because it just can't be the abysmal blood-drenched death cult that sanctifies this and all the other reprehensible atrocities committed by akhbarbarists.

The blood drenched death cult....Umm you were right

Yes, Guringo you are right.

The same blood drenched religion that gave us the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, Genocide in Bosnia, Apartheid in Africa, Wars for Oil in the Middle East is behind this attack too.

Yeah for Christianity. You've done it again!!!!

BTW, now we know that the bomber is a fanatic Christian bomber, the Left-Wing Norwegian government should bring him to the Palestine State recognition ceremony. That would drive the Jesus-Freaks even crazier and be a great form of torture for the nutjobs.

Doesn't Make Sense

I don't get it. Many in Norway are openly anti-Israel and would be happy if it were destroyed. Norway is a great place for Muslims to live, get government protection & subsidies etc. (the point of this article). For it's good behavior Norway should rewarded and be totally immune to islamist attacks. I'll bet it was the Mossad that did this.

Yes

You might be right. Mossad is behind this, just like they were behind 9/11, the assassination of Kennedy, Watergate, Pearl Harbor and the Germany's defeat in WWI and the cancellation of the Dukes of Hazzard. They must be stopped!

Why is no one mentioning Gaddafi?

It was probably some group backed by Gaddafi. The Norwegians have been actively bombing Libya for the last 6 months or so, and Gaddafi did say that he would strike back in a similar fashion. I don't get why all the news reports are acting as if this is some huge shocker. Norway isn't some peace loving nation, they're a nation at war with quite a few people at the moment.

Hmmmm. A jew writing an entire article before even finding out a single fact. As if the Western world doesn't hate muslims enough, here's another hatred essay and Foreign Policy duly plasters it on its site. How unsightly.

Equal ignorance would conclude that it might have been Netanyahu who committed this act based not only on what he said, but all the mass murders he has actually ordered. Ignorant as is that logic, it is actually more logical than Berger's thesis.

Embarassing for FP and worse for NBC

I am a huge fan of FP whether it is the Arguments, Slide Shows the weekly LWOT and excellent photography and am more than happy to sing your praises . However, along with a few other people who should have know better, this article, especially the sub title "Is this the man behind the Oslo terrorist bombing?", was not your finest hour. Actually you were just plain wrong. As for NBC whoever does the show
bookings needs a talking too. It may make great entertainment but morally it is surely wrong to be encouraging vigilantism. FP was right to call it "execrable" but the FP need to at least update this article.

The Mullah Krekar Show

In my opinion, the tribunal has a long and not-so-glorious history. In the late 1990s, the government, headed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, approached the United Nations to create a court to try Khmer Rouge officials.
But they didn't want a fully international court, like what was set up for the former Yugoslavia. Despite vocal misgivings from U.
N.
negotiators, the final agreement in 2003 was for a hybrid, with Cambodian and international judges and prosecutors working with Cambodian and international laws, under a French-style system.
