Moscow's Silly Season

If America thinks its presidential campaign is nuts, just check out the bikini carwashes, arm-wrestling, and synchronized dance moves that go into the Russian election.

AUGUST 11, 2011

A presidential election is scheduled for March 2012, but no one is quite sure whether Putin, Medvedev, or both, will be running. However, that hasn't stopped both men -- and their supporters -- from holding increasingly bizarre pseudo-campaign events during these last hot summer weeks. Above, a boy photographs a banner of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on July 4 during the annual Seliger youth camp organized by the Federal Youth Affairs Agency and the Kremlin-created youth movement Nashi, at Lake Seliger.

Interesting

I honestly think that the wild nature of the elections in Russia is something to be admired. Anything is better than the bashing we often see on TV during the political election season. It's just getting really old if you ask me, and the Russians are doing something that not only is lighthearted, it just doesn't seem as slimy as American politics. When the elections are near, I basically turn off my TV, and focus on my newest flight simulator download instead of watching the garbage on TV.

Phoney democratic action

Phoney democratic action groups, orchestrated (phoney) events for the news, phoney events where they mix with real people, long interviews with influential newspapers, politicians playing saxaphones (I mean singing), youths in party t shirts, cheerleaders... FB seems to think this is unusual? President Dmitry Medvedev, Politburo Yuri Seoexpertski and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
I just missed the hard hats and baby kissing but could not tell the difference between Moscow's and our way.

Who Should the US Be Negotiating With?

Remember there's still a little bit of controversy within the Eastern European missile defense shield, and also the START negotiation renewals. At this time there appears to be much purposeful vagueness happening using the Russian Leadership. Is Russia waiting until following the 2012 elections in America before revealing their strategies? If Obama is re-elected Russia may listen to it one of the ways, and when the United states citizens reject Obama's leadership and oust him after his hard-fought re-election campaign, then Russia must cope with beginners in the scene also. Regardless a persons power of sound and fury continues, so please consider all of this.
