China's Missing Children

As many as 70,000 Chinese kids may get kidnapped each year. Parents, who often have nowhere to turn to for help, are taking matters into their own hands.

BEIJING — On April 10, 2010, the Liu family was living the Chinese dream. The couple had moved to the city, rented an apartment, and were blessed with two beautiful children. They weren't rich, but they were getting by. Like many Chinese people, they felt their lives were getting better.

The next morning, strange men came to their house, grabbed their son Liu Jingjun, dragged him into a white van, and drove off. Since then, the Lius have been looking for him. They haven't found him, but they have discovered that there are an awful lot of people just like themselves.

Since at least the 1980s, kidnapping and human trafficking have become a problem in China, and most often, the victims are children. Estimates vary on just how bad things have gotten. The Chinese government reports that fewer than 10,000 children are kidnapped each year, but the U.S. State Department says it's closer to 20,000. Some independent estimates put the number as high as 70,000 (compared with 100 to 200 children kidnapped per year in the United States, for example).

The vast majority of kidnapped children will never see their families again. In China, kids are abducted not for ransom but for sale. Often, they come from poor and rural families -- the families least likely to be capable of tracking their kids down or fighting back. Some children are then sold to new "adoptive" families looking for children. Others are sold into slave labor, prostitution, or a life on the streets. In some cases, healthy children are brutally crippled by handlers on the theory that a child with broken legs or horrific boils looks sadder and can earn more money begging on the street.

Some children are even sold into adoption overseas. Chinese adoption agencies seeking the substantial donations foreign parents make when they adopt -- in some cases, as much as $5,000 -- have been known to purchase children from human traffickers, though these cases appear to be relatively rare.

Most instances of kidnapping are perpetrated by gangs that are large, national, and highly organized. Based on cases solved by Chinese police, it's not uncommon for some kidnapping rings to have dozens or even hundreds of members, and to be responsible for the kidnappings of hundreds of children.

China's Missing Children

Where are they all gone?

To New Zealand where they practice identity fraud, immigration scams and fraud, extortion, drug importation and distribution, insurance scams, illegal gambling, prostitution, money laundering and some of the most cold-blooded murders you could not imagine.

That is your answer.

What are you talking about?

That article does not state that the criminals or the victim were abductees. In fact, it says nothing about abductions at all.

Christ Someguy,

I must apologize for the appalling mix-up!
You are of course dead-right, spot-on and on the money.
Nowhere in the article is it mentioned that the Perps' were/are abductees.
I presume the article is just one of so very many in New Zealand that refer to Chinese immigrants in general. I suppose I just assumed that the sort of people who would make a home in a new, and welcoming country full of social, cultural and economic benefits would have had to have had quite an appalling background and history to so consistently abuse the host country and its' native citizens.
Please accept my appreciation of your diligence.

Missing Children

The range of estimates of missing children in China is disturbing. Can the government get a more accurate count? What I am concerned about is the lack of urgency on the part of the Chinese government.

The other "untold" story is the number of female children who've been aborted by families that are desperate for a male child.

Missing Chinese

With respect: is it disturbing?

The central command and citizenry are often forcefully telling foreigners to stay out of Chinese politics, and "culture" (actually there has been no culture in China since the Han dynasty).
Who is to say this is not one pf those fiendishly clever demographic plans that they have practiced-which brings me, rather nicely, to my next point.
The abortions and straight-out murder of female offspring has been well known for very many years, it is hardly untold or a secret.

What a charming population!

Missing children

This is truely a very sad, but true. I don't know what i would do if either one of my girls were victims of such a crime. or situation. Or for that matter my grandson. I love my kids more than anything in this world. I would do anything to keep them safe. But sometimes situations beyond our control more than someone can handle. So you got to look deeper into the situation. and seek help from those that have powers beyond ourselves. I know i would had if i had ever been in this situation. So i would for powers and beliefs of what i have. And i would do that by going here http://justmeandco.com. Anything to keep me and my family together forever.

Should be handeled in an international spectrum

That kind of facts is heart beaking.
As a fertility doctor I find on daily basic a lot of couples who are willing to conceive a child.
I guess these mafia kidnappers and organized gangs should be caught by an mutual international power

how about the aborted

how about the aborted children - especially little girls - who will result in the 'unintended consequences' of about 20,000,000 more boys with virtually no bet chance of finding a life partner/mate. what will happen when they realize? that they can not? may God find a way to forgive and 'fix' us.
