Strange how every brutal dictator is a human somewhere...

Very true, especially at the

Very true, especially at the family level.

It's so odd, how could a person who can have (presumably) natural feelings of love and care for his family then simultaneously give out blatant orders to attack other families. One idea is that he got so obsessed with maintaining power he actually brainwashed himself in believing the bs he spewed about people. His reality was so warped, he fancied himself as something like a god. In the end his love for power was evidently larger then his love for his family.

It makes me wonder though, can a normal person become this way when exposed to praise (as was the case initially) and unrestrained power? Could the vast majority of people not have the will in order to keep an objective mind? This is not to justify his actions by any means, just interesting to explore. I remember once judging a friend fairly hard for something he did, then when i was put in almost the exact same situation, i did the same thing... from that point forward I never outright judge someone in most cases but instead look to what circumstances/context led to that end.

Really wish people would capture a dictator like Gaddafi, then instead of shooting them, send him/her to a board of social scientists for study.

lol, only in an academics dream world though.

Well how abt bush?how many iraqis got killed? How abt carpet bombing?
If gadaffi got those weapons he would used the same, perhaps.

Brtuality is visible more when you are killing indivuals than carpet bombimg.

Its like feeling more pain when you take $10 bill out of pocket vs swiping plastic for $50

@Harly

A big difference is when Bush gave his orders, he was directing his forces against an armed force.

Remember, this started off with domestic protests that were met with Gaddafi kill squads, the level of culpability is much different.

What Carpet Bombing?

This is an example of deliberate self delusion and perpetration of a deliberate lie by an idealogue who has no foundation in truth. No such carpet bombing ever occurred in Iraq. Idealogues believe what the WANT to believe, with no regard for fact.

deceased dictator & murderer - editor seeks compassion?

None of this matters.
A dictator who tortured and slaughtered so many lives doesn't deserve such publication as if he were a hero. this is absurd.
As a fertility treatment specialist, I help create lives everyday, and a dictator destroys the lives of so many.
Poor truth.

scrapbook of Libyan dictator

Human is not synonymous with brutal. It is mysterious and related to that which we cannot understand, ie, who am I????? the man in the pictures is evolving...one can see from his face , alas no babyshots....that he was re making himself, inventing himself as hitler did, stalin, etc...and bush....these people grew in ego beyond the point of no return. indeed they were "legends in their own minds".....we who are supposedly the living on this planet are bearing witness to a shared collective violence, degeneration of morality and human compassion....to give over the particular chosen pics of a mass murderer in the company of the other mass murderers only gives us the human activity of identification.....as we are all interdependent with all the atoms of everything that is ocurring on the earth, in the wind, on fire, and in the seas.....separating the hu man from the monster is what makes the pharmaceutical companies biillions of dollars....we cannot complete a task that even the gods failed. there will be war there will be peace....there will be yin and yang......ad infinitum. it is for each hu man to make the choice.....as they evolve to realize that all is impermanent and passes away/ amen

That is Poor Economics

Sounds like the ultimate socialist/communist state where everything is just given to you for no work. That will ruin a country and is unfair to people who do the work. There would be no incentive to learn a great skill and earn a reasonable living while helping the country. If you make the effort and go to medical school or take piano lessons you should be rewarded for your efforts. I agree with low taxes as that is an incentive to work more but to give away things just doesn't help.

According to whom?

Hey, nice and quite insightful comments you made about the psychology of dictators, then again the tone of your comment has me seriously wondering how much you actually know about Qaddafi. Are you gaining your info based soley on the extremely biased and distorted reports in the media of what he did and said? If my only source of info on this man was the mainstream media, I might not like him either. But luckily I've been able to read his own words in his books Escape to Hell and the Green Book, and have watched some of his speeches and interviews, the unedited versions, and he is so opposite of how he's portrayed by the media. I believe he really is that kind and loving person you see in the photos with his family, and that he has that same love for the Libyan people, and mankind in general.

Africa's Mad Basenjis & the Vicarious Effects of Punishment

Ask any criminologist and you'll get the same answer: deterrence works. It works for both the offender who'll have to think twice next time and for the population at-large who'd not want to face the offender's fate. Gone the Mad Dog, the Mad Basenjis across Sub-Saharan Africa are shaking their tails with fear and a recurring question: who's next? Answer: all of them! Sanctions alone will not deter criminal behavior. Just look at the tons of documents and resolutions the United Nations has issued condemning those I've coined "little devils in human shape" or dictators. They're still hanging there. The Mugabes, Kagames, Musevenis, Kabilas, Biyas, etc. have found ways to get away with it. However, when we punish them, put them in cage for public display, those mad Basenjis find a reason to worry and to have nightmares. There are four good reasons to get rid of African dictators and tyrants and incarcerate them: (1) to punish them for the un-mensch manners; (2) to protect humankind because those guys are really a threat to world security; (3) to treat them since most of them have shown signs of severe feeble-mindedness and severe addictions, including the worst of all: power addiction; (4) rehabilitate them as long as we can transform them from little devils in human shape into real mensch.

Days are gone for the Mad Dog, days will soon be gone for Africa's Mad Basenjis as well!

Do They Really Think About Those They Leave Behind?

Trials reveal much not only about about actus reus (the criminal act (s)) but also about mens rea, meaning the criminal mind. I wish I could observe African despots in court to answer two basic questions any criminologist would try to answer: why they did it and why most of us human beings do not do those stupid things?

Anyway, we're still have some more despots in inventory in Black Africa, excessively and fearfully aligned while waiting for their times to be pushed out. Let's have them first stand trial to learn more about mens rea, that very criminal mind, then decide which deterring punishment they deserve.

The Post-Gaddafi Era Begins

The Libyan revolution has completed the reshape of the power geography of north-east Africa that the overthrow of Tunisia's Ben Ali and Egypt's Hosni Mubarak initiated so dramatically almost one year ago. The emergence of contiguous transitional authorities in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt opens a regional front of new political entities that, supposedly, are representing the hopes of the wider populations.

Downward spiral

It seems like Qaddafi really took a turn for the worse the older he got. He looked like a normal human being when he was younger, but as he aged, he got worse and worse. It almost looks like he was possessed towards the end. It is good for the people of Libya that this monster is out of power and that he is no longer in control. It is a shame that he is not around to deal with the crimes of his past. Death is the easy way out for this type of tyrant....especially without knowing how to get clear skin or a clear conscience. May the people of Libya find peace and get on with their lives. This is a deciding time right now as they go through changes and lets hope and pray that they do not have another dictator in charge ever again.

looks like every one of those blaming Qaddfi for his demonic nature has a personal intelligence report on Lybia, the whole world and everything being put on the table every morning for at least 10 last years. Their knowledge of the whole situation there is so deep and profound, while their life experience is so overwhelming, that it makes them possible to state judgements simply by looking at the photographs.

This is truly amazing. I worship you guys. Please, don't stop revealing *THE TRUTH* to us all!

If Nato or the US is going to help bomb...

If Nato or the US is going to help bomb Libya to get rid of it's leader because of the "crimes against it's own people" then they need to do the same with the other mideast countries that are doing the exact same thing if not worse especially Syria.

But we all know the only reason the US intervened is because of the personal beef with Qaddafi because of the bombing he ordered in the past and the US wanted to get their revenge. ipad alternatives

Photo similarities

Photos 1 & 29 appear to be of Qaddafi and the same girl, who may be his granddaughter. Judging from the bulky radio and what appears to be a photo of Qaddafi and Poland's last communist leader, General Wojciech Jaruzelski in the upper right of photo 29, this is probably in the mid- to late 1980s? Jaruzelski resigned in 1990. This video appears to be of Qaddafi and the same girl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EKBf_AifY0

Let us not forget that when westerners want something from someone they tend to give them lavish gifts in return for lucrative oil contracts. What is known as “kickbacks” is standard business practice in the west. This article has not provided me as a reader with proof that it was Libyan money that bought any of this. This article also neglected to show the lavish lifestyles of western leaders… to compare. kompiuteriu taisymas Vilniuje So it is ok for the Sarkozy’s and Clintons of the world to have Armani and Versace suits and expensive watches and live champagne lifestyles but woe betide an African who dare try to. He will be lynched. One sided bordering on Racist? I think so.
