Mourning in Mogadishu

An exclusive portfolio by photographer Jared P. Moossy of the devastation wrought by famine.

PHOTOS BY JARED P. MOOSSY | NOVEMBER 22, 2011

Photographer Jared Moossy traveled to Somalia this September, photographing a country ravaged by famine. He visited two refugee camps, near Bald Hawa and Dolo, and the capital, Mogadishu. What he saw -- and what he photographed -- was a country ravaged by decades of war, drought, and terrorism.

Above, women in Bald Hawa, gather to express their frustration and tell their stories -- where they had traveled from, why they had left -- while waiting for a food aid to be delivered. Several people in the group had walked for days to reach the refugee camp; many had lost family members along the way.

Whow

Whow,

that picture on the first page had touched my heart. It has emotions, story, as well as static dynamic within! I love it even that it makes me sad.

Heartbreaking

Cant understand why the West seem to be so interested in liberating the people of some countries but then turn a complete blind eye to others giving only a token gesture of concern. Are these not people also.

Im just a pest control guy but try to help by doing fundraising for a great charity called Hope Worldwide. They do great work with minimal overheads.

Thanks for keeping the pictures of these scenes in the public eye. We can't ignore this.

very sad photos

very sad indeed. I pity these people especially the children. It is really depressing seeing photos like these, just looking at the malnourished little children is really bad.
