Mourning the Dear Leader

Pyongyang grieves over the death of a despot.

DECEMBER 20, 2011

While many celebrated the passing of Kim Jong Il on Saturday, the official North Korean state news agency, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), released pictures of North Koreans sobbing over the demise of the despot. Across Pyongyang, mourners -- from school children to the elderly -- were shown participating in the thousands-strong sobfest. "How could the heavens be so cruel? Please come back, general. We cannot believe you're gone," one mourner shouted, according to the Sydney Morning Herald
