The protest followed the deaths of 79 football fans, who were killed in clashes
between rival fan clubs, known as ultras, following a match between teams al-Masry and al-Alhy in Port
Said, Egypt. Three days of mourning have been announced and marches have resulted in battles with the police, who are blamed by some for providing inadequate protection at
the stadium when the violence occurred.
