Heavy flooding hits Beijing, Aurora mourns its victims, and the Olympic torch finally reaches London.

JULY 27, 2012

Torrents of water pour from the Three Gorges Dam, a gigantic hydro-power project on the Yangtze river in central China's Hubei province, after heavy downpours in the upper reaches of the river caused the highest peak levels of the year. Historic downpours in Beijing and Chongqing on the  weekend of July 21 caused severe flooding and left behind extensive damage. Casualty numbers are still being tallied.
