On Jan. 23, Spain's leading newspaper El Pais published a front-page photograph that allegedly showed ailing Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez in his hospital bed. The next day, however, El Pais issued a formal apology after discovering that the picture was a fake. The controversy sparked a furious reaction from Venezuela.
