Once Upon a Time in Seoul

The process of modernization continued following the Japanese annexation of the Korean peninsula in 1910. Seoul underwent dramatic changes during its 35 years under Japanese rule, though it was a period marked by colonial oppression. Alongside the atrocities committed by the Japanese against Koreans, however, Seoul also saw rapid development: Japan installed railroads, telegraph lines, new roads, and schools -- all of which left their mark even after the Japanese had departed.
