Aleppo is a city divided, with the west held by government forces and the east held by the opposition. Each side continues to fight to expand its territory, while the lives of many civilians continue to span both sides of the city. The only crossing point between east and west is a 600-meter corridor patrolled by government snipers holed up in buildings like the tall building in the center background of the photo above. Pedestrians are exposed to snipers' lines of sight for almost the entire length of the corridor.
Above, civilians pass back and forth between the two areas of the city.
