Magazine Receives Third Nomination in Four Years for Industry’s Highest Prize
The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) announced yesterday that FOREIGN POLICY is a finalist for the 2006 National Magazine Award for General Excellence, making the magazine the only international affairs publication to be nominated for the industry’s highest honor. FP is also the only returning nominee from 2005 in its category. The magazine has been nominated three out of the past four years, winning the award in 2003.
The 2006 finalists were chosen from 1,643 entries submitted by 356 print and online publications in 22 categories. Winners for the 40th annual awards will be announced in New York on Tuesday, May 9, 2006.
FOREIGN POLICY Editor in Chief Moisés Naím said that the nomination caps off a remarkable year that included the celebration of the magazine’s 35th anniversary, the expansion of the its website, www.ForeignPolicy.com, and the launching of three new foreign editions.
“FOREIGN POLICY proves that a small but dedicated staff can produce a magazine that punches well above its weight in a very competitive marketplace,” Naím said. “This nomination is a testament to an ever growing readership that is looking for fresh, jargon-free analysis of the events shaping our world.”
Jessica T. Mathews, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, which publishes FOREIGN POLICY, said, “To be a finalist for overall excellence three years out of four testifies to the extraordinary level of creativity and new ideas that FP sustains issue after issue. The Carnegie Endowment takes great pride in the magazine.”
