Photo Essay: Bush in Africa
Posted February 2008
With his domestic approval ratings plumbing new depths, President George W. Bush escaped to Africa in search of an increasingly precious commodity—adoring fans.

President Bush sits down after Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf awarded him Liberia’s highest order of distinction during a ceremony at the executive mansion in Monrovia, Feb. 21, 2008. Bush became the first U.S. leader in 30 years to visit Liberia, a country settled in the 1820s by freed slaves from the United States.
