From New York and Reykjavik to Dubai and Tokyo, the economic news only seems to get worse.

Global slowdown: As governments across the globe consider fiscal stimulus packages, the bite of the recession is extending to economies everywhere. Above, a couple walks through a parking lot in Cwmbran, Wales, on Jan. 9. At the time, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was due to visit Wales on the final leg of his regional tour of Britain, during which he highlighted a massive public spending program he hoped would help Britain beat the recession.
